Vail, Arizona
The suburban community of Vail Arizona is one of the fastest growing areas in the metropolitan Tucson area. Known for its abundant space, exceptional home values and an excellent school system, Vail is only a 25 minute drive from downtown Tucson or the airport. Many homeowners find that Vail is a great place to raise a family or enjoy the active adult lifestyle of empty nesters.
To see Vail homes and properties from downtown Tucson, drive East on Interstate 10 and take exit #279, Wentworth/Colossal Cave Road. Go north less than two miles and you will find the center of the picturesque town of Old Vail, which was christened in the 1880’s and remains much as it was then. Today, Vail remains unincorporated and has no official boundaries; however, in the vast area beyond the “town between the tracks”, you will find just about every type of home or property from custom-built luxury estates to the Master Planned Community of Rancho Del Lago. In between, there is a variety of subdivisions and homes in Vail, including new construction, gated communities and horse properties. The largest and most popular Vail neighborhood is Rancho Del Lago. Rancho Del Lago is a master planned community surrounding the Del Lago Golf Country Club, a semi-private 18 hole course with a pro shop and the renowned Hacienda Del Sol restaurant. Rancho Del Lago boasts the gated, luxury subdivision of Wingview, located high above the golf course. Rancho Del Lago also has the only Active Adult Retirement Community in the Southeast, The Four Seasons, which is also gated for security. Vail proudly offers a second golf course, the Santa Rita Golf Club in south Vail. Here you will find the luxury townhome community of Aldea Del Rey, located directly on the golf course, where you can relax on your patio and watch players drive, chip or putt for glory. The Santa Rita Golf Club was made famous by the movie “Tin Cup”, starring Kevin Costner and Renee Russo, which was one of the film’s locations in Southern Arizona. Another popular outdoor activity in Vail is biking along Old Spanish Trail, which winds around Vail and leads to the Saguaro National Forest and Colossal Cave Mountain Park. Guided tours into the cave let you enjoy 70° degree weather year around. The prestigious communities of Coyote Creek, Mountain Creek Ranch and Academy Village are also located nearby. Because I-10 runs right by Vail, it is an easy drive to work or play for Vail’s many active residents. Davis Monthan, Raytheon and the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park employees call Vail their home precisely for its accessibility, school district and wide open spaces. Soldiers and civilians working at Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista also reside in Vail. For restaurants, there are several options currently available including the Del Lago Country Club, two Italian and one Mexican restaurant, Montgomery’s Grill, a Quiznos and a Dairy Queen. Vail residents are looking forward to several new facilities and shopping opportunities. Land has been cleared and permits issued for Safeway Prestige Center, which will anchor several retail outlets and be completed in mid to late 2009. A Walgreens will open in late 2008, and a Wells Fargo Bank soon after. Long term plans include the life-style center know as The Passages of Tucson, which will add many more stores, restaurants, mixed-use residential facilities (retail stores with condominiums on the upper levels), medical facilities including a Carondolet Hospital, and up to three resort hotels. The general partner of this project was instrumental in building the famed Mall of the Americas in Minnesota; however, the developers insist in calling The Passages of Tucson a life style center and not a mega mall, as it is designed for multiple use and will blend into the beautiful scenery that surrounds Vail.
