History

Activities & Attractions

Catalina State Park, with its pine-covered mountains the Spaniards called "La Iglesia" or "The Church" for their cathedral-like appearance, is one of the area's scenic and recreational attractions. Short drives away are Picacho Peak State Park, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Old Tucson Studios, Saguaro National Monument West, San Xavier Mission, and Biosphere 2, a three-acre model of the earth's ecosystem. Oro Valley supports and encourages creative endeavors, and hosts an annual "Art in Oro Valley" Contest and Exhibition, a Concert of All Ages, a Choral Festival, and the Oro Valley Festival of the Arts.
