Marana Homes & Real Estate
Marana, a relatively new town just a few miles northwest of Tucson, is dedicated to maintaining a friendly environment where people can work, shop, live and play. Marana has been one of the fastest growing places in Arizona with the current population, of about 35,000 is expected to grow to 90,000 by 2025. Incorporated in 1977, Marana straddles I-10 and forms the north border of Tucson and the west border of Oro Valley. On the west side of I-10, Marana continues past the Tucson Mountains and Saguaro National Park. On its north side, a small section of Marana crosses into Pinal County, making Marana the closest major town in Pima County to Phoenix. Marana is about one hour away with an easy drive via Interstate-10. Marana was named by the 19th century railroad workers who had to clear a line through area, which means “thicket” in Spanish. Farming and ranching still dominate north Marana but a splurge of growth, primarily on its south side, has brought in businesses, housing, and the annexation of previously unincorporated nearby neighborhoods. Today Marana is a thriving suburban town with several leading builders in its many reasonably priced developments designed for families with children. Two Master Planned Communities that immediately come to mind when you think of Marana are Continental Ranch and Gladden Farms. Continental Ranch is in the heart of Marana, west of I-10 along Linda Vista Boulevard. From I-10, you’ll pass the nearby Arizona Pavilions, a shopping center with retail stores targeting economically oriented shoppers, movie theatres, and popular dining. Building continues in Continental Ranch, which features its own community park and recreational facilities, as well as The Links at Continental Ranch for the golfers in the family. Continental Ranch is known for its family oriented neighborhoods but did you know there is also a retirement community in the neighborhood? Continental Ranch Sunflower is an age restricted subdivision with many affordable homes and styles. Gladden Farms is further north on I-10 between Tangerine and Moore Roads. Gladden Farms also boasts its own community park with athletic fields, tot lots and neighborhood playgrounds. This Master Planned Community features pool sized lots ranging from 6,000 to 8,000 square feet. Marana may be best known for Dove Mountain, a Master Planned Community at the base of the Tortolita Mountains. Dove Mountain is home to three golf courses: Heritage Highlands, which is an Active Adult Community; The Gallery At Dove Mountain, a gated, luxury home neighborhood that has hosted the Accenture Match Play Golf Championship the past two years; and the Ritz Carlton Golf Club, which will host the Accenture Championship in 2009. With an emphasis on low-density, Dove Mountain’s nine square miles is almost one-third open space. Here you’ll find luxurious custom homes with expansive views of Tucson and subdivisions catering to families, active adults, retirees, “snow birds” and golfers. Heritage Highlands at Dove Mountain is a gated, “Active Adult” community with homes ranging from the affordable to the luxurious. Recently built out to about 1,300 homes, the residents enjoy a world class Arthur Hills designed golf course, lighted tennis courts, a huge fitness center, saltwater pool and spa, and a clubhouse with dining and activity areas. Wherever you live in Marana, whatever your age or lifestyle, you’ll enjoy the beauty of the Sonoran Desert and the nearby Tortolita Mountains. Local shopping, dining, and entertainment is just minutes away, and with its close proximity to I-10, Downtown Tucson and Phoenix are also easily accessible.
